ASETS is the acronym from the Academy of Economic Studies Trading Systems and it represents a research project directed towards designing a trading environment that would create the opportunity for students to study in detail the investor's needs from an electronic trading platform, the components of a trading system and their functionality in a straight through processing approach, and the trading strategies that can be implemented to corroborate models for automatic (program) trading. ASETS covers the entire transactional process of ordering, order matching, execution generation and capture, trade dissemination and client portfolio management. In addition, within the simulation environment, there are real world delayed-prices disseminated to the investors, who can also access the simulated market depth for each tradable financial instrument, and also the market map.
2. How do I create an account?
To create an account you must go to www.bursa.ase.ro, select "Request Account" option, fill in the registration form and send the request.You will receive an email message containing your user and password.
To log in, you have to click Session->Login. You must provide your user id and password and click on Login button. Once the user name and the password are authenticated by the system, you will be able to access your current trading session.
4. How to place a buy/sell order?
To place a buy order, select Order->Buy. You choose the trading symbol for the desired financial instrument to be ordered, the quantity you want to buy and the order price. If for the order price you select you choose 'Limit Price' option, you must enter the maximum price at which you want to buy. If you choose 'Market Price', you will buy an order at the current market price. The total value of the buy orders has to be within the limits of a system defined cash amount, available to each investor once he or she registered into the system. To place a sell order you must select Order->Sell. You may only sell a financial instrument that you possess in your portfolio. The quantity you can sell has to be less or equal than the quantity you possess. To view and save your financial instruments you can select Portfolio option. Similar to the placement of a buy order, you can choose the order type to be 'Limit Price', and specify the minimum price at which you want to sell, or select 'Market Price' order type.
5. What type of information does Orders & Executions section present?
The Orders panel contains all the orders you placed during the current trading session. Each order has assigned an order (system) status and a market status. From the trading system perspective, an order may be in one of the following states:

The Executions panel contains the market-generated executions, corresponding to the orders you placed. You can see information about execution time, order id, trading symbol, side (buy or sell), trading price and quantity.
If you select an order from the Orders panel, the corresponding executions from the Execution panel will also be highlighted.
6. For how long can an order be valid?
ASETS platform provides daily trading sessions, meaning that the orders are valid within the trading session they were placed in. At the end the day, all the orders that were not executed, or not fully executed, are considered as canceled, and they are not carried on to the next trading session.The system does not handle good-till-canceled (GTC) type of orders.
7. Can I update or cancel a successfully placed order?
Yes, this is possible. The order update operation allows you to change a limit order into a market order, but not the vice versa and to decrease the ordered quantity, for both market and limit orders. To update or cancel your order you must select the Order from the Orders panel and click using the right mouse button. A contextual menu will appear and you can choose the action you want to perform. You can only update or cancel orders that are not fully executed.
8. Can I view or modify my portfolio?
Yes, ASETS offers the possibility to view and save your portfolio of acquired financial instruments, keeping its value up to date through a price feed supplied by a collection of web clients that connect to corresponding web services and capture delayed market-data disseminated by The Bucharest Stock Exchange. To view or modify your portfolio, you must select Portfolio menu option. Also, you can export your portfolio as a .csv file.
9. How can I use the Market Depth option?
Using this option, you can consult the market depth for a trading symbol. After you choose the symbol and click the View button you will be able to view the current orders on the exchange for the selected item.
10. What kind of useful information does Trades option offer?
By selecting Trades option, you can see for each of your trade the symbol, the price, the quantity, the value and the moment of the trade. You can export your trades as a .csv file if you will need the information later.
